Blind dates may not be all that blind. Whether people are set up by friends or turn to online dating to find a mate, they still want to find out more about the person before they meet.
Nearly half the women in a Match.com survey about first dates said they research a date on Facebook before their first meeting. However, nearly as many men surveyed said the practice was «completely unacceptable.»
Advice to men from Match.com’s dating expert Whitney Casey: Get your ducks in a row.
«Make sure that there’s nothing that would have her running for the door before even getting to meet you in person,» Casey wrote in an April 15 blog post. «Instead of the keg-stand profile picture you might have currently, opt for a subtler picture  to depict that you like to have a good time.»
Assuming men pass the Facebook test, they will follow up with their dates (as long as the get-together went well) sooner than in times past, the survey found. According to the survey, the three-day rule is dead.  The majority of men (75 percent) said they follow up within three days, usually with a phone call.
